Nimblist was hired to be the eyes and ears for Creatives Demna Gvasalia and Nikolas Bildstein Zaar to facilitate their vision for the second Donda listening party in Atlanta on August 5, as neither could attend due to Covid restrictions at the time. The success of this show led to Nimblist being asked to produce, in its entirety, the next Donda listening party in Chicago.
ATL: Ye played his 10th album Donda for 40,000 fans at Mercedes Benz Stadium and delivered a larger-than-life experience while holding court in a simile of the monk-like cell he had been inhabiting whilst finishing the album. At times encircled by 5,000 dancers. 50 synchro lights lit the sky in a heavenly beam as an epic homage to Mr. West’s mother. The show closed with Ye ascending up to the open stadium roof into the clouds. We worked on a rigging assembly supplied by our friends at Tait.
ORD: For his third Donda listening party, Ye presented hometown fans with an anachronistic tableau in Chicago’s Soldier Field: an exact replica of his childhood home on top of 722 tons of dirt in the middle of the cavernous stadium. The experience closed with Ye bursting into flames, then reuniting with Kim Kardashian in a Balenciaga wedding dress as the lights went out.
